We provide an experienced in-house team that will handle the whole job from the point of your initial contact with us through to our engineers completion of your works. We do not use sub-contractors!
We are an NICEIC Approved and HEA (HERS) accredited street lighting contractor, our engineers are qualified and fully trained to carry out all aspects of street lighting works to comply with the current BS 7671 (IET Wiring Regulations) relating to street lighting systems located on private roads and unadopted roads that are maintainable privately. Typical clients instructing our services for these types of locations include Parish Councils, Housing Associations, Residents Associations, Building Developers and Landlords.
A private road or an unadopted road is a highway that's not maintainable at public expense and the local highway authority is therefore under no obligation under the Highways Act 1980 to pay for its maintenance. A legal duty to maintain these roads still exists and it falls onto the owners of the road, which usually consists of the owners of any properties fronting that highway.
Operating from our street lighting depot located in Harlow, Essex, we undertake works at various residential, commercial and industrial sites within a large geographical general area ranging from Portsmouth on the south coast to Birmingham in the north and from Bristol in the west to Great Yarmouth on the east coast. Depending on the works required we may also consider works further afield.
Our organisation and staff have passed stringent assessment by the Highway Electrical Association relating to our ability to meet the standards set by the Highways Agency in the National Highway Sector Scheme 8 (NHSS8) and we are an HEA Highway Electrical Registration Scheme (HERS) Registered Organisation.
Our services range from the provision of new street lighting installations, fault finding and reactive repairs, emergency response and also fixed term maintenance contracts (N.B. annual maintenance contracts are based upon the proviso that the streetlighting infrastructure complies with current BS 7671 wiring safety regulations and IET standards). If required we will also carry out electrical inspection and testing of your lighting stock with certification provided approved by the NICEIC.
Matrix operate a fleet of vehicles equipped with powered mounted 'cherry picker' platform access and Hiab equipment, we also carry secured ladder access gear to enable us to repair most issues on our first visit. We stock a wide range of lamps and spare parts to enable us to bring street lighting back into service on most fault issues. Should there be a lantern that has been damaged or is beyond reasonable/economical repair we also carry a limited stock of suitable replacement LED lanterns. All waste material e.g. old lamps, electrical fittings etc. are returned to our depot for recycling where possible to reduce landfill.
On request we will carry out site lighting layout surveys and asset inspections to provide clients with written reports on the condition of their lighting stock: CLICK HERE to view a sample Matrix site lighting survey document. We also make recommendations on further works that may be required to improve the life of the lanterns and reduce running and maintenance costs.

Our designs include proposals of where lighting should be provided, at what levels and which styles of lighting columns and lanterns best serve to integrate into key street scenes and conservation areas. We make recommendations for the control of lighting and reduction or elimination of obtrusive light and we maintain cost-efficient regimes.
The need for appropriate lighting, providing the correct levels of illuminations whilst remaining environmentally aware, has become extremely significant and we strictly adhere to incorporating this into our business policy. When designing lighting we take into consideration optimisation, energy efficiency and product life cycle analysis. We consider the use of sustainable materials, light pollution and the needs of local people. Our innovative technical and operational solutions also recognise people’s growing concerns with environmental issues and energy costs.
We provide an experienced in-house team that will handle the whole job from the point of your initial contact with us through to our engineers completion of your works. We do not use sub-contractors!
We operate our own fleet of service vehicles that are suitably equipped for the varied tasks at hand, which enables our engineers to complete most works on the same day at the first time of attending.
Of course, we carry a limited stock of modern LED lanterns, lighting bollards and a wide variety of lamps and electrical parts to allow us to upgrade your equipment or, we can order in the parts required in advance prior to attending to your project.
In the event that we do not have the parts required in stock on our service vehicles we are usually able to source them through our national network of suppliers who are likely to have the part available locally. If it's a major component required then that can be ordered into our depot normally within a few days.
We will send a priority service vehicle to isolate and make safe the damaged electrical cables from the power supply and remove any dangerous remains back to our depot for recycling. We can then look at installing a suitable replacement lamppost column or bollard to bring the site back into service.
Costs obviously will vary depending upon the site location and the scope of equipment required. A formal written estimate of our costs can be provided for all works required.
If you require any further information or, would like an estimate of costs for your street lighting project, please contact us and give us a brief out-line about the works required by post, telephone, e-mail or, if you prefer, you can fill in the adjacent enquiry form to request a without obligation quote and send it to us; we'll get back to you as soon as possible. We look forward to hearing from you.
